Neck pain

Felt in the neck, but often started somewhere else.

A man wincing and rubbing the back of his neck.

Why your neck hurts

Neck pain is felt in the neck, but it can start in several places: tight muscles in the neck and upper back, a nerve pinched where it leaves the vertebrae of the neck, or a joint that isn’t moving well in the neck or the upper back.

It’s very common. About two out of three people have neck pain at some point in their lives.

Common causes

  • Stress
  • Holding one posture for a long time
  • Minor injuries and falls
  • Pain referred from somewhere else
  • Overuse
  • Whiplash
  • A herniated disc
  • A pinched nerve

How we help

Dr. Florian uses Activator Methods: gentle, precise adjustments with a small hand-held instrument, with no twisting of the neck. Rehabilitation stretches and exercises then help the muscles of your neck and upper back hold good posture.

Get medical care right away for neck pain with a fever, a severe headache, or numbness or weakness in your arms, or after a hard fall or crash.
